Internet Service

Background
Caring Hands has one computer, which is connected to the Internet and is available for use by elderly and disabled residents of the Ouseburn Ward of Newcastle. This service allows clients to search for information, as if going through various libraries. The internet holds a catalogue of information at your fingertips, it is easily accessible and can provide the most up to date information. This is a free service although any printed documents will be charged at between 5p and 50p per A4 sheet, depending on the quantity of ink required.

Using the Internet
The Internet is capable of retrieving different types of information, as long as you have a question in mind then a result will be found. Search for information on a particular subject such as hobbies, education, training, support groups, ‘your area’ and any additional subjects you are interested in researching. This service can be used to send and receive E-mails, so anyone wishing to contact a distant relative (also with internet access) is able to do so quickly and free of charge, messages take seconds to send and pictures can be attached if necessary.

Word Processing
The computer can also be used for typing up documents using Microsoft Word if required, however you must explain that this is what you wish to do, when you call to make your appointment.

Support
Instructions on how to use this service are available in the Caring Hands office and if you require any help, please do not hesitate to ask. The rules and regulations concerning the type of information that can be accessed will be explained to clients when they call to make an appointment.

This service is available to clients by appointment only. Sessions are available on a Wednesday only between the hours of 11.00 am and 2.30 pm. Each session is approximately 15 minutes, two or more sessions may be booked depending on availability.

Bookings can be arranged over the telephone or alternatively, for further information, please complete a General Enquiry Form and submit on line or download and Post to Caring Hands Charity, or Fax on 0191 261 5251. We aim to reply to all enquiries within 3 working days of receipt.
