Caring Hands Laundry

Background
The laundry service is open to any elderly or disabled person living in the Ouseburn Ward of Newcastle, this area covers, Shieldfield, Battlefield, parts of Heaton and parts of Jesmond. This service operates on a Wednesday only. Some areas East of the City will be considered.
The service consists of a collection and delivery service. A volunteer will call to your home and collect the laundry to be washed, dried and folded and then delivered back to your home during the same day. The first pick-ups will start at approximately 8.30 am and the laundry will be returned to the clients from approximately 2.30 pm onwards on the same day.
A four weekly rota is currently in use, but is restricted to a maximum collection of 24 loads during any one week. Clients can be placed onto a weekly, 2 weekly or 4 weekly rota, depending on their need.
A will be processed, which may take between 3 and 10 days, after which time a letter or telephone call will advise the applicant of the outcome. When a place has been allocated details of the subsequent 3 months pick up dates will be advised.
The laundry service is currently offered on a Wednesday by Volunteer workers and uses the facilities at Caring Hands Community Launderette, 38 Wretham Place, Shieldfield, Newcastle.
Charges
The charge for this service is £3.00, which includes the soap powder, 1 standard wash, drying and folding. An additional charge of £1.00 will be applied for transport provided in the Ouseburn Ward area. The transport charge may increase if collections are outside the Ward area. In addition to the Ouseburn Ward area, some places East of the City can be accommodated.
Caring Hands is able to provide one laundry bag free of charge, as each bag only holds one wash load, bags should not be filled to capacity, but must be able to fully close for easy handling by the. Additional or replacement bags can be purchased for £1.00 per bag.
How to Access This Service
Relatives, carers, professional and voluntary agencies can access this service on behalf of the individual or individuals can refer themselves, in all cases we would not begin any service without the agreement of the person requiring the direct support.
