Position: Social Media Support Volunteer

Venue: Caring Hands Office and/or from home

When: Hours can be flexible to suit volunteers. This position does not require attending the office and can be, for the most part, remotely managed.

The ideal candidate would benefit from having knowledge of the local area and our beneficiaries. This role would be perfect for students currently studying in Newcastle upon Tyne as activities do not rely on attending the office.

The Role:

• Keep Facebook page updated, insert text, pictures, notices as required
• Introduce and support Twitter account (optional)
• Offer support for staff to manage similar tasks

Launderette Support

Position: Launderette Support/attendant Volunteer

Venue: Caring Hands Community Launderette, Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne

When: Any one or more of the following days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday

This position would suit a friendly, outgoing person who enjoys working in a busy environment.

The Role: General launderette duties, full training will be given.

• Accept laundry
• Collect payments
• Provide receipts
• Manage laundry tasks in timely fashion
• Wash Laundry using industrial machines
• Dry Laundry using industrial driers
• Fold and pack Laundry

The above list is not comprehensive and other duties may be required. Training will be given on site.

Skills/Experience:

Receptionist

Position: Receptionist Volunteer

 

Venue:  Caring Hands Charity Office

 

When: One or more days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Hours between 9.00am and 3.00pm. We are flexible, but we do need someone who we can rely on to commit to agreed times and days.

 

We are looking for someone who is friendly, outgoing and a team player.  A person who is open-minded, non-judgemental and tolerant of different lifestyle and values.  The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in our beneficiaries and knowledge of the local area would be helpful.

 

Task/Role: Customer service and office duties

 

  • First point of contact in the office (phone and in person)
  • Dealing with enquiries/giving information over the phone and in person
  • Relay messages and information to relevant volunteers and staff
  • Using computer to enter Database enquiries, record appointments, register new service users etc. (training will be given)
  • General office duties e.g. photocopying, processing mail etc.
  • Offer tea/coffee to visitors

On-site training will be given.  The above list is not comprehensive and other duties may be required. We will provide training ‘on the job’.

Volunteering Opportunities

Our volunteers must be caring, enthusiastic and dependable.  We are looking for people who have a warm, friendly, adaptable approach which allows them to relate well to a wide range of older people. 

Lunch Club Support

Position: Lunch Club Support/assistant Volunteer

 

Venue: Christ Church Hall, Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne

When: Every Tuesday, Service operates 10.30am – 3pm

This position would suit a friendly, outgoing person who enjoys working as part of a team.

It is important that applicants are reliable as this is key to this service running well.  Students are welcome to apply if they are able to commit to an agreed timetable.

The Role: General kitchen duties (no cooking)

• Serving meals and refreshments
• Clearing tables
• Washing and drying crockery and utensils (rota basis)
• Collect payments
• Escort on transport (occasional)
• Interaction with members
• We encourage you to offer support and companionship as and when time allows.

Counsellor

This rewarding role would suit a counsellor wishing to maintain their professional competence.  Applicants will be expected to manage their appointments, hours will be flexible to suit all parties.  Saturday appointments are currently in place but, late afternoons could be introduced if these are more suitable.

We are keen to recruit someone who is qualified to at least Foundation Degree and who works within the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice. 

Volunteers are subject to Enhanced DBS Disclosures and required to provide two references before commencing any work with Caring Hands.  A lone worker policy is in place and must be adhered to, for the safety of both client and volunteer.

We offer, Person Centred, Eclectic and/or Integrative approach, applicants would be required to source their own supervision and relevant insurance.  (Public Liability is provided)  The current provider can offer support during the initial joining period.

Trustee

Position: Trustee Volunteer

Venue: Meetings will usually be held in Caring Hands Charity office.

When: 3rd Thursday of every month for a regular management meeting. The meeting takes place from 10.30 and lasts (on average) 2 hours.

We are interested in someone who is friendly, outgoing and able to work well within a team. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in our beneficiaries, be reliable and trustworthy and positively promote our Charity.

Commitment is extremely important and Trustees are required to attend the monthly meetings. Trustees may occasionally be asked to support sub groups where their expertise would benefit a specific piece of work, these hours would be flexible by prior arrangement.

The Role:

• Attend the monthly Trustees meetings
• Review and discuss matters relating to the Aims of the Charity
• Identify any areas of concern and suggest/discuss solutions
